It is the capital of Jiangsu Province and boasts a population of around 7.5 million. Lying to the south of the Yangtze River and to the east of Purple Mountain, alongside many historic sites, it provides all the facilities of a bustling provincial capital. It provides an ideal manageable base from which to begin a study of Chinese language and culture.
