University of Granada, Spain: Student Life

Housing and meals

Students live with a Spanish family. Students are placed at least two to a family and have breakfast, lunch and dinner with them. Food or drinks between meals must be bought by the student outside the home. Laundry will be done once a week by the host family.

Facilities

The Summer Advantage office is located in the center of Granada, near the Fuente de las Batallas, 5 minutes from the University building. The office is open 5 days a week and has computer facilities with internet access.

Supervision and staff

Students have their own keys and may come and go as they please, within reason, and must be home before curfew. Students are given information on what to expect, rules of conduct and general procedures. AIFS staff are on call 24-hours a day and reachable by cell phone. They assist in academic advising and registration, provide travel guidance, and help students gain access to counseling and medical assistance, if necessary. AIFS staff also coordinate a weekly newsletter providing information as well as practical advice and news on cultural events.

Keeping in touch

Students receive a phone card on arrival to call the United States. The Summer Advantage office and university provides free internet access. We strongly recommend that students purchase a cell phone for the duration of the program. AIFS staff will provide more information on how to do this at the on site orientation meeting.

Visas

Visas are not required for U.S. citizens staying in Spain less than 3 months.
