Richmond in Rome, Italy: Student Life
Housing and meals
Students will be housed in twin, air-conditioned rooms in a centrally-located student residence. AIFS provides students with daily breakfast at the residence plus dinner in local restaurants accompanied by AIFS staff. Students will need to budget extra funds for beverages and lunches.
Facilities
Various facilities are available free of charge to Richmond students outside class time. The school has a study center with a computer lab and study area equipped with tape recorders, VHS, CDs and reference books. There is also a student club with a snack bar.
Richmond students take all of their classes in DILIT classrooms with professors who teach Richmond students exclusively, except for the possibility of mixed classes in advanced Italian language courses.
Students receive an unlimited monthly travel pass on the Rome bus and underground system.
Supervision and staff
Students will be supervised by AIFS staff who are on call 24-hours a day and reachable by cell phone. Some AIFS staff live alongside students in the student residence. They assist in academic advising and registration, provide travel guidance, and help students gain access to counseling and medical assistance, if necessary. AIFS staff also provide a newsletter with information as well as practical advice and news on cultural events. Students are required to observe a curfew.
Keeping in touch
Students receive a free phone card on arrival to call the United States, as well as a stamped postcard to send home. Phones in the rooms are for incoming calls only. Students may purchase phone cards to call home. All students have access to the Internet using the computer facilities at school, at the residence or at cybercafés. We strongly recommend that students purchase a cell phone for the duration of the program. AIFS staff will provide more information on how to do this at the on-site orientation meeting.
