University of Paris IV - La Sorbonne, France:
Student Life

Housing and meals

Students live in the Citadines Apartment Hotel in the center of Paris in the Bastille area, just 7 metro stops from the Sorbonne. Students share twin bedded rooms (one bed is a pull-out stored during the day) equipped with air conditioning, desk, TV, CD player, phone, bathroom, and kitchenette with microwave, double burner, dishwasher, refrigerator and kitchen utensils. Sheets and towels are changed once a week.

AIFS provides students with daily breakfast at Citadines plus dinner in local restaurants accompanied by AIFS staff. Students will need to budget extra funds for beverages and lunches. A sandwich and coffee in a cafe costs about $20. A three-course meal in a restaurant costs from $30 to considerably more.

Facilities

The Summer Advantage office is located in the Citadines Apartment hotel.

Supervision and staff

AIFS Resident Advisors live alongside students in the Citadines Hotel. They are on call 24-hours a day. They assist in academic advising and registration, provide travel guidance, and help students gain access to counseling and medical assistance, if necessary. AIFS staff also provide a weekly newsletter with information as well as practical advice and news on cultural events. Students are subject to a curfew.

Keeping in touch

Students will receive a phone card on arrival to call the United States. Cybercafés are available throughout Paris for Internet access. We strongly recommend that students purchase a cell phone for the duration of the program. AIFS staff will provide more information on how to do this at the on-site orientation meeting.

Visas

Visas are not required for U.S. citizens staying in France less than 3 months.
